FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
|
Q:
Do I need a permit for shutters?
Q:
How do I find the right shutter company? |
|
Q:
Does the state make sure companies that
advertise are licensed contractors?
A: No. The state does not have the
resources to check every ad in newspapers and phone books. Calling Brevard
county Licensing at 633-2058 will help you weed out the undesirables.
Q:
After my shutters are installed how often do they require maintenance?
A: Depends on the type of shutter. Panels
require little or no maintenance, roll ups typically once a year and should be
performed by a shutter professional. Any outdoor mechanical device in Florida
will require some type of maintenance and lubrication.
Q:
What does Miami-Dade approved mean?
A:
Because of the widespread devastation left by Hurricane Andrew
in 1992, south Florida building officials realized that the current building
codes were insufficient to prevent significant damage. Statewide building code
levels were raised but Dade, Broward and Monroe county went a step further and
adopted the most stringent standards in the U.S. Research has shown that the
odds of significant damage are greatly reduced if the integrity of the home’s
openings remains intact. 150 mph wind load and small and large missile impact
testing have produced superior shutters to protect your home or business.
Insist on Miami-Dade approved products and installation. No
permits are required in Brevard county for retrofit shutters so be sure the
product and installation you purchase are spelled out in the contract.
